Why we picked it: A dim red or orange glow (it also does yellow, green and white) gives enough light for night feeds and nappy changes without switching on the main light. It has a silicone shade and a timer that switches off after 30 minutes or 8 hours, dimming slowly over the last 15 minutes. It runs on AA batteries, so it can sit anywhere away from the cot.
Skip it if: You'd put it inside the cot: IKEA approves it for ages 3–14, so for a baby keep it on a shelf as a light for the parent. Batteries are not included, and the body is plastic.
